02 Actions16 actions

  1. 1

Apply safety, resilience, accessibility, environmental sustainability and resource efficiency as standing criteria in all infrastructure planning, construction, renovation, expansion, operation and maintenance, covering academic buildings, research facilities, administrative and residential facilities, student facilities, transport-related infrastructure and utility systems.

  2. 2

Incorporate energy-efficient technologies, sustainable materials, efficient water use, natural lighting and ventilation, and appropriate environmental management practices into infrastructure projects wherever technically and economically feasible.

  3. 3

Assess risks from climate, extreme weather, flooding and heat for infrastructure project and major renovation before the design is approved, and record the assessment in the project file.

  4. 4

Improve accessibility and safe movement within university facilities, treating accessible entry, circulation, toilets and signage as a design requirement in main construction and as a phased retrofit programme in existing buildings.

  5. 5

Maintain a planned regular maintenance, inspection and timely improvement of infrastructure, so that service life, safety and operational resilience are sustained.

  6. 6

Integrate renewable energy, energy-efficient systems, smart technologies into infrastructure planning where appropriate.

  7. 7

Manage construction and renovation activities responsibly so that environmental impact, waste generation and disruption to teaching, research and residential life are minimized.

  8. 8

Align infrastructure development with the university’s academic, research, innovation and long-term development priorities.

  9. 9

Direct research and innovation toward real-world national and global challenges, with priority to sustainable infrastructure, clean energy, digital transformation, advanced manufacturing, environmental protection and climate resilience.

  10. 10

Encourage interdisciplinary and collaborative research across academic departments, institutes, research centers, industries and government agencies.

  11. 11

Operate an innovation and incubation center providing workspace, mentoring, investor and industry linkage and seed-grant pathways, and support student innovation through research projects, innovation challenges, competitions, workshops and entrepreneurship activities.

  12. 12

Designate a unit within DRE to advise researchers on identifying, protecting and managing intellectual property arising from university-supported research, in accordance with university rules and national law, including patent and design filing, and on licensing and technology transfer agreements.

  13. 13

Move research with practical potential toward prototype development, validation, technology transfer, consultancy, licensing and spin-off or start-up formation, with clear rules on revenue and benefit sharing among the university, inventors and partners.

  14. 14

Actively seek sponsored research and joint research grants with industry partners, apply transparent contracting and intellectual property terms.

  15. 15

Maintain working mechanisms that connect researchers with industries and other potential users of research outcomes, and document and periodically evaluate significant collaborative activities for their academic, technological, industrial and societal contribution.

  16. 16

Maintain academic integrity, research ethics, safety, professional responsibility, confidentiality and intellectual property protection in all research and collaboration, and disseminate findings through scholarly publications, conferences, demonstrations, exhibitions, consultancy and training.
