A waste management policy seminar, a campus-wide leaflet campaign and hands-on training for support staff are bringing SDG 12 into everyday campus life.

RUET’s three-layer approach to sustainability education.

RAJSHAHI — Rajshahi University of Engineering & Technology (RUET) is embedding sustainable consumption and circular-economy principles into its academic and professional development programmes through a series of seminars, campaigns and training sessions for students, faculty and the wider RUET community.

The first layer is policy. RUET organised a dedicated seminar on waste management policy, bringing together students, faculty members and administrative staff to discuss the university’s approach to responsible waste handling. The seminar covered the fundamentals of waste segregation, the environmental and public-health risks of improper disposal, and the institutional responsibilities involved in building a cleaner, more sustainable campus.

The second layer is everyday awareness. As a complement to the seminar, RUET carried out a leaflet distribution campaign across the campus, taking the message beyond the seminar hall and into daily student and staff life. The leaflets gave simple, actionable guidance on reducing waste, using designated bins properly and adopting more sustainable daily habits.

The third layer is operational. Recognising that administrative and support staff play a frontline role in day-to-day waste handling, RUET conducted structured training sessions for its staff on proper waste segregation, handling procedures and the safe management of different waste categories.

Together, the seminar, leaflet campaign and staff training combine policy communication, peer-level awareness and practical training — supporting SDG 12’s emphasis on institutional accountability and SDG 4’s goal of continuous, workplace-based learning.
