RAJSHAHI — Rajshahi University of Engineering & Technology (RUET) organised a seminar titled “Smart Waste Bin Management: Towards a Cleaner, Smarter & Sustainable Future” on 27 May 2025 (Tuesday) at 10:00 AM in the Central Auditorium, RUET.

The seminar was held in collaboration with the Department of Urban & Regional Planning (URP) and the Department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering (EEE), and was attended by faculty members and university authorities.

It introduced the concept of smart, sensor-equipped bins featuring fill-level monitoring, real-time data transmission and efficient collection routing — a pathway to smarter municipal and campus waste management.

The seminar has already produced a tangible result: it directly inspired a Civil Engineering student to build a prototype smart waste-sorting bin that automatically separates plastic from non-plastic waste.

The event supports SDG 12, along with SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure) through smart-sensor technology, SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities).
