The Institute of Energy and Environmental Studies anchors RUET’s work on renewable energy and efficiency, while student innovation events turn ideas into prototypes.
RAJSHAHI — Rajshahi University of Engineering & Technology (RUET) hosts the Institute of Energy and Environmental Studies (IEES), established in 2016, which runs postgraduate programmes and applied research in renewable energy, energy efficiency and environmental impact assessment.
The Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering has also hosted student innovation events, including a 2026 climate camp focused on renewable-energy prototypes and air-pollution-control technologies, which feed directly into the university’s sustainability goals. Clean-energy learning also reaches participants through short courses such as “Harnessing the Wind: Analytical, Numerical and Experimental Approaches to Wind Energy.”
RUET’s energy-related sustainability work is currently concentrated in research output and pilot projects through IEES. Unlike some universities that publish a specific percentage of “smart” or energy-efficient buildings, RUET has not yet released a campus-wide building-efficiency figure — an area the university can build on in future reporting.
The work advances SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) as its primary goal, alongside SDG 12 through energy-efficient practice, SDG 13 (Climate Action) and SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure).
SDG Alignment: SDG 7 (primary); SDG 12; SDG 13; SDG 9.
