The Vice-Chancellor and Pro-Vice-Chancellor joined a tree-planting drive at former informal dumping sites, as part of a policy to prevent waste at the source.
RAJSHAHI — Rajshahi University of Engineering & Technology (RUET) has begun planting trees at locations on campus that were commonly used as informal waste-dumping spots, transforming them into clean, green spaces.
The initiative was carried out in collaboration with Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC), with the Vice-Chancellor and Pro-Vice-Chancellor of RUET taking part directly in the tree planting alongside university officials.
The idea is simple: instead of repeatedly clearing the same spots, RUET introduces greenery that discourages indiscriminate dumping in the first place. The approach reflects the principle that sustainable waste management is not only about removing waste after the fact, but about preventing its generation and improper disposal at the source.
As well as advancing SDG 12, the initiative contributes to SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), SDG 15 (Life on Land) through green-space restoration, and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through joint action with RCC.
RUET intends to extend the green-space conversion policy to more locations across the campus, in continued partnership with Rajshahi City Corporation.
SDG Alignment: SDG 12 (primary); SDG 11; SDG 15; SDG 17.
