From a fully online undergraduate admission process to duplex printing and digital departmental portals, RUET is steadily reducing its paper consumption.
RAJSHAHI — Rajshahi University of Engineering & Technology (RUET) has been steadily moving towards reduced paper consumption by shifting core university processes online.
The biggest change is in admissions. The entire undergraduate admission process — application, payment, admit card and result publication — is now conducted through the online portal (admission.ruet.ac.bd), eliminating large volumes of paper forms.
Academic notices, class schedules and examination routines are published digitally on department websites instead of as printed circulars. Departmental meetings are encouraged to be paperless or minimal-paper, with schedules and agendas shared digitally among faculty and staff.
Where printing cannot be avoided, both-side (duplex) printing is used for official documents to minimise paper wastage. Departmental portals, such as the IPE Student Portal, host lecture notes and academic resources online, reducing the need for printed course materials.
Together these steps support SDG 12, while also contributing to SDG 13 (Climate Action) through reduced paper-linked emissions, SDG 15 (Life on Land) by easing pressure on forestry resources, and SDG 9 through digital-portal systems.
SDG Alignment: SDG 12 (primary); SDG 13; SDG 15; SDG 9.
