Fifteen selected publications from 2015 to 2026 cover transfer stations, hospital waste, industrial waste, wastewater treatment and machine-learning forecasts of city waste.

Selected RUET Civil Engineering publications on waste and wastewater, by research theme (2015–2026).

RAJSHAHI — Beyond curriculum-linked work, Rajshahi University of Engineering & Technology’s (RUET) Department of Civil Engineering has produced a substantial body of research on solid waste, medical waste, industrial waste and wastewater management — much of it focused on Rajshahi City.

Medical waste is a recurring theme. Studies include “Medical Waste Management: A Case Study on Rajshahi City Corporation in Bangladesh” (2015), “Present Practice of Hospital Waste Management in Rajshahi City” (2017), “Critical Issues of Present Medical Waste Management Practice in Rajshahi City and Its Improvement Strategies” (2019), “Medical Waste Disposal in Rajshahi: An Analysis of Processes, Safety, and Capacity” (2025) and “Assessment of Medical Waste Generation, Workforce Safety, and Hospital Segregation Practices in Rajshahi City, Bangladesh” in the Journal of Material Cycles and Waste Management (2026).

Municipal solid waste is another focus, with work on secondary transfer stations in Rajshahi City Corporation (2024), waste composition and disposal practices (2025), solid-waste practices in public spaces (2025), slum waste disposal and its impact on river water quality (2019), and a machine-learning model to predict Rajshahi’s municipal solid-waste generation rate (2024).

Researchers have also studied industrial waste in the BSCIC area of Rajshahi (2016) and the RMG industry (2021), and resource recovery — producing activated carbon from rice husk (2022), testing recycled-polymer-modified asphalt (2020) and removing textile dye from wastewater using indigenous adsorbents (2022).

This research underpins RUET’s applied expertise in responsible consumption and production.
