From its roots as Rajshahi Engineering College in 1964 to a university of 6,000+ students, RUET’s campus has expanded steadily — and its planning now carries a sustainability lens.
RAJSHAHI — Rajshahi University of Engineering & Technology (RUET) sits on a campus of roughly 152 acres in Kazla, Rajshahi. The grounds include academic buildings, laboratories, workshops, residential halls, faculty housing and recreational facilities.
The institution was founded in 1964 as Rajshahi Engineering College and was upgraded to full university status in 2003. Since then, the campus has undergone continuous modernisation, with new academic and residential infrastructure added as enrolment has grown to around 6,000+ students across 18 departments.
That scale matters for responsible consumption. Every hall, laboratory and dining facility generates waste and uses energy and materials, which is why RUET’s SDG 12 initiatives — from colour-coded bins and on-campus composting to paperless administration — are designed to work across the whole campus.
Long-term campus planning and infrastructure growth also link RUET’s work to SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) and SDG 4 (Quality Education).
SDG Alignment: SDG 11 (primary); SDG 4.
