A field visit to the FSTP in Shibganj, Chapainawabganj gave participants hands-on exposure to every stage of a working treatment system.
RAJSHAHI — As part of the Fecal Sludge Management workshop organised by ITN-BUET and the Department of Civil Engineering, Rajshahi University of Engineering & Technology (RUET), participants made a field visit to the Fecal Sludge Treatment Plant (FSTP) in Shibganj, Chapainawabganj.
The group departed the university campus at 7:30 AM and arrived on site by 10:00 AM.
Participants inspected each stage of the treatment process first-hand: the Sludge Receiving Chamber and Screening area, the Sludge Cum Thickening (ST) Tank, the Anaerobic Baffled Reactor (ABR) Chamber, the Planted Gravel Filter (PGF), the Polishing Pond (PP) and the Sludge Drying Bed (SDB).
The visit gave participants practical exposure to a functioning fecal sludge treatment system, connecting the design principles covered in the workshop with real-world operation.
The field visit supports SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation) as its primary goal, along with SDG 11, SDG 3 and SDG 4 through applied field training.
