Overview

Rajshahi University of Engineering & Technology (RUET) is a green, internally connected university campus. Students, teachers, officers and staff move every day between academic buildings, residential halls, offices, recreation spaces and the campus gates. RUET’s own campus information notes that students, teachers and staff are accommodated within the campus and that nearby everyday services can often be reached on foot.

Key points

  • Key Sustainable Commuting ActionsThe university operates electric shuttle services for intra-campus transport and encourages the use of electric three-wheelers for short-distance commuting.
  • Four modes, one sustainable mobility ideaWalking: The most direct low-carbon mode for short campus trips. In RUET, the continuous footpaths, shade, safe crossings, lighting and seating determine whether walking remains convenient.
  • Bus Service for the Students, Teachers and StaffRUET provides bus service for the students, teachers and staff on scheduled routes daily, covering major points in Rajshahi city. The routes cover almost the whole Rajshahi city.
  • Research and DevelopmentA 2019 study, “Design of a Green Energy Transportation System at RUET Campus,” proposed a solar-powered electric bus using a 2 kW photovoltaic system.

Conclusion

The sustainable-commuting story at RUET is most convincing when it is grounded in ordinary campus life. Students walking beneath mature trees, university buses bringing people from Rajshahi city, bicycles moving through internal roads, and an emerging electric shuttle service all belong to the same mobility picture.
